“The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.” – Jesus, Matthew 9:15

Are you dissatisfied with the world? Fasting expresses discontentment and dissatisfaction with the way things are and our longing to make a difference. Fasting is for everyone who wants to see God make changes in the world.

Fasting is a private discipline that is practiced corporately.

God’s people would fast together in the Bible for many reasons.

  • God’s people fasted before making big decisions.
  • God’s people fasted to express repentance.
  • God’s people fasted to break spiritual strongholds
  • God’s people fasted to resist the temptations of their culture.
  • God’s people fasted before facing dangerous situations.
  • God’s people fast because they are awaiting Jesus’ return.
  • God’s people fast for spiritual renewal.
  • God’s people fast as they await God’s response.

In spite of what you might think you are not afraid of change. You may have recently changed jobs, started a new business, moved, changed houses, joined a gym, changed insurance providers, changed churches, went back to school, and/or changed cable companies.

If we were afraid of change we wouldn’t try to change for the better and we wouldn’t try to change the world for the better.

With all of the changes you have been through, how do you want God to change you?

Also, how do you want to see God make changes in the world? In other words, where do you want to see God enact his restorative justice?

Fasting is for everyone who wants to see a change in the world.

Fasting is also a catalyst for anyone who wants to become the change that they want to see in the world.

    1. There will be options based on each person’s level of commitment. Each week there will be a day dedicated to fast from food. But you may also choose to participate in fasting for the full 21 days with a “Daniel fast.” You can also choose to fast for three days at a time each week. What’s important is to be specific in reference to your time (plan ahead and commit to it) and what you choose to abstain from. God will honor your best sacrifice.
