Do you want to know Jesus better? You need the Spirit of wisdom and revelation.
When I met my wife Ana for the first time we shared a meal together with family and friends. She drove all the way from Starkville, Mississippi to Dothan, Alabama to see one of her brothers that had moved there. During our first meeting I didn’t really try to get to know her. I didn’t leave her with a good first impression.
I didn’t try to get to know her at first because I thought she lived too far away. I though the distance between made inaccessible. Who wants a long distance relationship?
It wasn’t until my friend revealed to me that she came to Dothan to meet me. I felt so foolish.
“Oh, she likes me.” That’s a good start. I could manage that. I was wisely encouraged to contact her, which I did and the rest is history.
I didn’t know what to do with the opportunity. I needed help making the connection. This is how it is in our relationship with Jesus. We need help making the connection with Christ. You need help growing in your relationship with Jesus.
You may think that God doesn’t want to get to know you or that he is inaccessible. The truth is that God wants to be close to you. He wishes to be a part of you, to live inside of you. You and God are meant to be one. He has bridged the sin gap between you and him. He wants to get to know you through his son Jesus.
Do you want to get to know God? If you know him already, do you want to know him deeply?
You need to know Jesus better. A deep “
You need the Helper, to help you know Jesus better.
In Paul’s letter which we entitle “Ephesians” he wants the church to understand the love that God has for them. I believe that when we want our faith to grow we don’t talk about faith. We talk about Jesus. The same is true of love. To understand the love of God better then we focus on our relationship with Jesus. Paul wrote what he wrote so that the church could grow in the Lord.
Don’t just read the letter, know Jesus better.
Mostly what we may think of when we hear “know Jesus” is gaining more knowledge. We gain knowledge through his word and you may have heard the expression, “knowledge is power.” Knowledge can be power.
But I think Paul would say knowledge leads to prayer and prayer is power. Knowledge leads to worship and worship is power. It is in worship and prayer that we get to tell God all that we know about him and all that he knows about us. It is through worship and prayer where we access the power over our lives that God has for us.
In prayer and worship, we listen to God and talk to him. We commune with him. We make requests of him. We praise him and lament to him.
What we are seeking more than facts is friendship. What we are pursuing more than knowledge is relationship.
There is power in our relationship with the risen Christ seated at the right hand of God.
This is how we live a life of love, the life that God would have us to live. We grow in our relationship with the Person of Love (Jesus) as revealed to us through the Spirit of love (Holy Spirit).
Prayer: God we ask you to give us your revealing Spirit. Through wisdom and revelation, we seek to grow in our relationship with your Son. Amen.
