Confession time. I do not love Mondays. When I first dreamed of preaching a series on work and faith, I dreamed of writing and preaching something from a place of consolation. In reality, this sermon series is from a place of desolation. “Loving Monday” is more for me than it is for you. Ready Player One released in movie theaters nationwide this weekend and is based on the 2011 Earnest Cline novel. It was one of my favorites reads from 2017. In the book, teen, Wade Watts along with most of the world’s population logs into a virtual world called the Oasis. The Oasis is where they go to escape the terrors of the real world. Sound familiar? It’s familiar because it’s our story too.

In Exodus 33 Moses asks the Lord whom he will send with him as they travel to the promised land. The Israelites had just built an idol in the form of a golden calf because of their impatience. They did not think that Moses would return from the mountain.
